What Oxalika vaporizers are and what they are used for

In this section you will find answers to the most common questions about what Oxalika vaporizers are, what they are used for, and how they are used for varroa treatment with oxalic acid.
What are oxalic acid vaporizers used for?

Vaporizers are used to treat bees against varroa mites through oxalic acid vapors.

The vaporizer heats the oxalic acid, turning it into vapor, which spreads inside the hive and targets mites present both on the bees and within the colony.

One dose is sufficient to treat a single hive; the device can be reloaded and used sequentially for multiple hives.

Are Oxalika vaporizers safe for bees?

Yes. Oxalika vaporizers are tested under real operating conditions, inside active apiaries.

These tests are carried out to ensure that the sublimation temperature is safe for bees and, at the same time, effective against Varroa destructor.

Is it legal to use sublimated oxalic acid to fight varroa?

The possibility of using oxalic acid by sublimation depends on the laws in force in each country.

It is necessary to verify whether, at a national level, veterinary medicinal products based on oxalic acid are authorized for administration by sublimation. Oxalika manufactures vaporizers, not veterinary medicines.

How many hives can I treat with one dose of oxalic acid?

One dose of oxalic acid is always intended for the treatment of a single hive.

The amount of oxalic acid used may typically range from 1 to 4 grams, depending on the size of the colony, but each dose always corresponds to one hive.

The devices can be reloaded and used sequentially to treat multiple hives.

In which country are Oxalika vaporizers manufactured?

All Oxalika vaporizers are manufactured in Italy.

Which vaporizer to choose

In this section you will find a guide to choosing the most suitable Oxalika vaporizer based on the number of hives, the type of power supply, usage methods, and the characteristics of the different models.
Which Oxalika vaporizer is recommended for an apiary of about 10 hives?

For a small apiary or for non-intensive use, two models are suitable.

The Oxalika Premium (12 V) vaporizer is appropriate if you already have a 12-volt power supply system, such as a car battery, which can also be used for other applications.

The Mini Cordless (18 V) is ideal for those who already own compatible power tool batteries with Oxalika adapters and is particularly practical and easy to use. It is also a good choice if a moderate increase in the number of hives is planned in the future.

Which Oxalika vaporizer is recommended for those who have about 25 hives and plan to expand to 50–100?

For a medium-sized or growing apiary, the most suitable model is the Oxalika Pro Cordless Sprint, designed for more intensive use and able to ensure speed and efficiency even with many consecutive treatments.

Alternatively, for those looking for a more economical solution, the Mini Cordless represents a valid option for less intensive but still practical and versatile use.

Both models do not require generators, extension cords, or heavy car batteries and are particularly convenient if compatible batteries are already available.

What is the difference between Oxalika Cordless vaporizers and wired electric models?

Cordless vaporizers offer great convenience, while wired electric models provide higher power.

Mini Cordless models have a power output of 150 W, Pro Cordless models 240 W, while wired models range from 300 W to 600 W depending on the version, resulting in faster sublimation times.

Cordless models, however, do not require generators, extension cords, or cable management, allowing treatments to start immediately and reducing equipment setup time.

What is the difference between the Oxalika Pro Cordless vaporizer and the Pro Power?

The Pro Cordless is battery-powered and allows approximately 3 grams of oxalic acid to be sublimated in about 60 seconds. It is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized apiaries, frequent movements, and areas without electricity, offering great freedom of movement.

The Pro Power, with a power output of 600 W, is designed for very large apiaries concentrated in a single area, allowing intensive treatments with very short sublimation times (about 18 seconds for 3 grams) and high operational continuity.

In summary, the Pro Cordless prioritizes mobility and autonomy, while the Pro Power prioritizes speed and high performance.

What are the differences between Oxalika Mini Cordless and Pro Cordless?

The main differences concern power, speed, controls, and maintenance.

The Mini Cordless has a power output of 150 W and is intended for less intensive use; the Pro Cordless, with 240 W, reaches operating temperature more quickly and sublimes approximately 20% faster.

The Pro can be equipped with a display for temperature visualization and adjustment or with LEDs, while the Mini uses an automatic system with multicolor LEDs indicating the different operating phases.

From a maintenance perspective, the Pro allows independent replacement of wear components, while in the Mini the flange is integrated into the boiler, which is nevertheless designed to far exceed one thousand sublimations.

The Pro Cordless is recommended for those with many hives seeking a professional tool, while the Mini Cordless is suitable for those who want a compact and reliable solution for less intensive use.

What are the differences between the Oxalika Basic vaporizer and the Oxalika Premium vaporizer?

The main difference is temperature control.

The Premium model is equipped with a system that maintains a constant sublimation temperature, also identifiable by the presence of two cables leading to the bowl: one for the heating element and one for thermal control.

The Basic model has a single cable connected to the heating element and does not feature temperature control.

Why is temperature control important even in a bowl-type vaporizer?

Temperature control allows time and energy to be saved.

Thanks to this system, it is not necessary to cool the bowl between treatments, and energy is not wasted reheating it to the sublimation temperature, allowing multiple consecutive treatments to be carried out with the same battery.

Does the Oxalika Premium vaporizer need to be cooled between treatments?

No. The Premium model is equipped with a device that keeps the temperature within the correct sublimation range (approximately 190–200 °C), allowing oxalic acid to be added directly without waiting for cooling.

Why does the Oxalika Basic vaporizer need to be cooled between treatments?

The Basic model does not feature temperature control.

If used without cooling between treatments, the bowl may reach very high temperatures, even exceeding 400–500 °C, which could damage the bowl itself, making cooling necessary before proceeding with a new sublimation.

Which bowl size should I choose for the Oxalika Premium vaporizer?

The choice depends on the size of the hive entrance.

The Premium is available with a 12×38 mm bowl, suitable for entrances at least 12 mm high, and with a 9.8×55 mm bowl, required when dealing with lower entrances.

In Italy, the 12×38 mm bowl is more common, while in countries such as Switzerland and Spain the 9.8×55 mm version is more widely used.

Can the Oxalika Premium vaporizer be used on Dadant and Layens hives?

Yes, provided that the entrance opening is wide enough to allow insertion of the bowl.

The availability of two different bowl sizes allows adaptation to various configurations. Alternatively, Cordless models offer high compatibility thanks to interchangeable nozzles.

In countries where only Api-Bioxal is permitted, which Oxalika vaporizer should be used?

It depends on the Api-Bioxal formulation used.

It is necessary to carefully read the product label to verify whether the authorized formulation contains excipients at approximately 14% or approximately 0.5%.

Api-Bioxal with approximately 14% excipients
Only Oxalika vaporizers marked “Easy” must be used, such as Pro Cordless Easy, Mini Cordless Easy and wired Easy versions.
These models are designed for use with products containing excipients and are equipped with a straight upper nozzle, process caps, and a cleaning brush.

Api-Bioxal with approximately 0.5% excipients
With this formulation, characterized by a very low excipient content, it is also possible to use Sprint, Smart, and Power models, designed for use with nearly pure oxalic acid.

⚠️ It is important not to use products with a high excipient content on models not designed for this purpose, in order to avoid clogging or malfunctions.

Which Oxalika Cordless vaporizers are suitable for sublimation through the hive entrance?

Suitable models are Cordless vaporizers equipped with a Sprint plunger dispenser or a Smart Valve.

These systems allow oxalic acid to be introduced without rotating the device and enable treatment through the entrance, the feeder hole, or a rear hole in the hive.

⚠️ Cordless models without a Sprint dispenser or Smart Valve are not suitable for this mode of use.

Is it possible to load oxalic acid from the top on the Oxalika Cordless Easy vaporizer without turning it upside down?

Yes, by using the Sprint plunger dispenser bushing together with the Sprint plunger dispenser.

This configuration allows top loading in a simple and immediate way.

⚠️ In this mode it is mandatory to use pure oxalic acid or products with a very low excipient content. Products with additives, such as Api-Bioxal versions with high excipient content (14%), are not compatible with this configuration.

Which Oxalika vaporizers can be used with plastic or polystyrene hives?

Models equipped with a nozzle can be used, provided that hot parts do not come into direct contact with plastic or polystyrene.

With Basic and Premium models, particular care must be taken to ensure that the metal part does not directly touch the hive material.

What is the Oxalika Pro Power vaporizer and what are its characteristics?

The Oxalika Pro Power vaporizer is a professional electric device rated at 600 W, designed to perform fast and intensive varroa treatments.

It is available in 110 V and 230 V versions and can be connected directly to the power grid or to a suitable generator.

Thanks to its high power output, it allows 3 grams of oxalic acid to be sublimated in approximately 18 seconds, making it particularly suitable for repeated and continuous treatments.

It is a robust and easy-to-use model, suitable for professional beekeepers as well as for those who require high performance. The power cable is 3 meters long, and an extension cord can be used.

Use, temperature, and sublimation

In this section you will find answers about oxalic acid sublimation temperatures, heating times, and the differences in thermal operation among Oxalika vaporizers.
Why do Oxalika PRO vaporizers operate at higher temperatures than the 190 °C often indicated for oxalic acid?

Operating at temperatures between 220 and 240 °C allows for complete and efficient sublimation of oxalic acid, avoiding residues and ensuring a treatment that is safe for bees.

The value of 190 °C, often mentioned online, does not correctly describe the sublimation process: at this temperature oxalic acid may melt, but it does not vaporize properly, with the risk of deposits forming in the dosing chamber, nozzle clogging, and activation of the safety valve.

In Oxalika vaporizers, the residence time of oxalic acid in vapor form inside the boiler is only a few seconds: even though oxalic acid in the vapor phase is chemically unstable at high temperatures, the time is too short to cause significant decomposition or harmful effects on bees.

Just as a pot must exceed 100 °C to keep water boiling, the vaporizer boiler must also exceed the sublimation point in order to supply the energy required for complete transition to the vapor state.

What temperatures are recommended for sublimating oxalic acid with Oxalika vaporizers?

To ensure correct performance and operational continuity, it is recommended to use the factory-calibrated settings, generally between 230 and 240 °C, which ensure a stable process without operational risks. On models equipped with a display, when using higher doses (3–4 g), if during sublimation a temperature drop below 210 °C is observed, it is possible to increase the temperature setting up to a maximum of 240 °C in order to maintain proper sublimation.

Why does the Mini Cordless operate at a slightly higher temperature than the Pro Cordless?

The Mini Cordless uses a smaller boiler, with lower thermal mass. When oxalic acid is added, the boiler therefore undergoes a more pronounced cooling compared to that of the Pro Cordless.

To compensate for this thermal loss and ensure proper sublimation, even with doses up to 4 grams, the Mini Cordless starts from an initial temperature of 240 °C.

After the initial cooling caused by the addition of oxalic acid, the operating temperature stabilizes at values similar to those of the Pro Cordless, ensuring safe and effective operation.

Which Oxalika vaporizer models allow temperature adjustment?

Manual temperature adjustment is available only on models equipped with a display, such as the Pro Cordless.

On these models, the user can directly set the desired temperature.

On other Oxalika vaporizers, the temperature is factory preset and calibrated, designed to ensure reliability and consistent performance without the need for adjustments.

The Basic model does not feature active temperature control.

Why does the Oxalika Mini Cordless vaporizer not allow temperature adjustment?

On the Mini Cordless, the temperature cannot be adjusted by the user because it is factory preset to the optimal value for oxalic acid sublimation.

This design choice ensures stable and repeatable operation, eliminating the possibility of incorrect settings.

The calibration of the Mini Cordless provides sublimation conditions equivalent to those of a Pro Cordless set at 230 °C, making the device easy to use and immediately operational.

How is the temperature set and controlled on the Oxalika Pro Cordless vaporizer with display?

On Pro Cordless models equipped with a display, the temperature is set using the “+” and “–” buttons.

Pressing “+” increases the temperature, while pressing “–” decreases it.

After a few seconds from the last adjustment, the set value begins to flash on the display and is automatically stored when the flashing stops.

What are the sublimation times of Oxalika Cordless vaporizers?

With the Oxalika PRO Cordless, approximately 40 seconds are required; with the MINI Cordless, about 50–55 seconds.

With Oxalika Cordless vaporizers:

  • PRO Cordless: approximately 40 seconds to sublimate 2 g of oxalic acid.
  • MINI Cordless: slightly longer time, about 50–55 seconds, due to lower power.

These times are indicative and may vary depending on: battery charge level; external temperature; humidity; presence of wind.

Display, LEDs, and operating signals

In this section you will find answers about the display, LEDs, and operating signals of Oxalika vaporizers, including the interpretation of error messages and the different operating phases.
How does the display of the Oxalika vaporizer work during use?

During operation, the display shows the temperature trend throughout the different phases of the treatment.

Initially, it indicates that the set temperature has been reached. After the oxalic acid is inserted, the temperature drops while sublimation takes place. At the end of the process, the temperature rises again to the set value, indicating that the vaporizer is ready for the next treatment.

What should I do if the Oxalika Pro Cordless vaporizer shows an error message on the display?

The “ERR” error message indicates that the vaporizer is unable to heat up at the expected rate.

In most cases, the cause is an inadequate battery, for example:

  • a discharged battery
  • a battery with insufficient capacity or performance
  • a non-original battery or one that is no longer efficient

Before requesting technical support, make sure you are using a battery with adequate performance and in good condition.

Only in less frequent cases can the “ERR” message be caused by a malfunction in the heating system, for example:

  • a heater that cannot generate the expected heat
  • a temperature probe that does not correctly detect the temperature increase

If, after checking the battery, the error message persists, it is recommended to send a short video clearly showing the device display from power-on until the error appears.

The video can be sent via WhatsApp to the number indicated on the INFO page or through the support form available on the website.

How can you tell when sublimation is finished on Cordless models without a display?

On Cordless models without a display, the process status is indicated by the status LED.

During the initial heating phase, the LED blinks slowly, approximately every two seconds. After the oxalic acid is inserted, during the sublimation phase, the LED blinks rapidly, about every half second.

When most of the oxalic acid has been sublimated, the temperature rises again and the LED returns to slow blinking, indicating the end of the main sublimation phase.

It is normal that, even after the LED returns to slow blinking, a light vapor similar to cigarette smoke may still be emitted: this is not an anomaly, but the gradual completion of the process.

Is there a video that explains how the Oxalika vaporizer display works?

Yes, a video tutorial is available showing how the vaporizer display works, including the main operations and switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

The video is available on the Oxalika YouTube channel.

Dispensers, Smart Valve, and treatment through the hive entrance

In this section you will find answers about Sprint dispensers, the Smart Valve, and treatment through the hive entrance, including compatibility, correct use, and limitations of the different Oxalika models.
Is the Sprint plunger included when purchasing an Oxalika vaporizer, or must it be purchased separately?

The Sprint plunger is not included with Cordless Easy models.

The Pro Cordless Easy is designed for use with the Api-Bioxal formulation containing approximately 14% excipients and is supplied with a straight upper nozzle, two process caps, and a cleaning brush, but without the plunger.

The Sprint plunger is included with Cordless Sprint models (spring-loaded plunger) and Smart models (spring-loaded plunger + Smart Valve), which are not compatible with the Api-Bioxal formulation containing 14% excipients.

The price of the Easy model is aligned with that of the Sprint model, but the equipment differs because it is designed for different uses.

Is it normal for a small amount of oxalic acid to pass beyond the Sprint dispenser plunger?

Yes, it is normal.

A slight clearance between the plunger and the cylinder is provided by design to prevent the dispenser from jamming in the presence of oxalic acid residues. A small amount of powder may therefore pass beyond the plunger without affecting operation.

It is nevertheless important to disassemble and clean the dispenser at the end of the treatment in order to keep it efficient over time.

Why can the Sprint dispenser become stiff or jam after many consecutive sublimations?

The dispenser may jam after numerous consecutive sublimations due to the accumulation of powder.

There are oxalic acids with different particle sizes and behaviors, and some powders tend to accumulate more easily inside the cylinder.

For this reason, it is advisable to periodically stop work and clean the dispenser, especially during intensive treatments.

What does the correct operation of the Sprint dispenser depend on?

The operation of the Sprint dispenser mainly depends on:

  • the humidity of the oxalic acid;
  • the particle size of the powder.

These factors may vary from batch to batch and are not controllable by the manufacturer.

In addition, for proper filling, it is important that the acid container is sufficiently full: if the powder level is too low, the dispenser cannot compact it correctly.

Does the Sprint dispenser become hot during use?

Yes, the plunger dispenser heats up during use.

The degree of heating depends on various factors, such as external temperature and wind, and it is not possible to indicate a precise number of hives after which it becomes hot.

It is recommended to use leather gloves to handle it safely during treatment.

How can sealing loss between the Sprint dispenser and the PTFE ring be avoided?

Loss of sealing may be caused by grains of oxalic acid adhering to the outer surface of the hot dispenser.

To achieve proper sealing, it is recommended to follow this procedure:

  • Press the Sprint dispenser into the oxalic acid powder.
  • Insert it into the PTFE ring and wait one second, allowing the heat to melt any grains.
  • Gently press the dispenser and rotate it clockwise to achieve an airtight seal.
  • Press the knob to release the acid into the boiler.

To remove the dispenser after sublimation, gently pull it while rotating it clockwise.

This procedure helps prevent leaks and ensures correct operation.

Is it possible to treat through the hive entrance with the Pro Cordless Easy vaporizer?

In general, no.

The Pro Cordless Easy is not designed for treatment through the hive entrance, because the oxalic acid is loaded into the boiler via the process cap, an operation that requires turning the vaporizer upside down. This method is not compatible with horizontal use in front of the hive entrance, especially in the presence of a landing board.

Treatment through the hive entrance can be carried out only in special cases, for example in the absence of a landing board or with a very narrow landing board, allowing the device to be rotated without obstruction. However, this is not the intended method of use for the Pro Cordless Easy model.

For treatment through the hive entrance, Cordless models equipped with a Sprint dispenser or Smart Valve are recommended, as they are specifically designed for this mode of use.

How many grams of oxalic acid can be used per cycle with a Cordless Easy?

The caps of Cordless Easy vaporizers can hold more than 4 grams of oxalic acid, but the recommended maximum amount per cycle is approximately 4 grams.

Loading higher doses may compromise proper sublimation and cause residues in the boiler.

For multiple treatments, it is preferable to perform several consecutive sublimations rather than exceeding the dose in a single cycle.

Is the Smart Valve compatible with the Oxalika Mini Cordless vaporizer?

No, the Smart Valve is not compatible with the Mini Cordless.

On the Mini Cordless, the valve would need to be mounted directly on the boiler, which reaches high temperatures, with the risk of damaging the plastic material of the valve.

On Pro Cordless models, however, the Smart Valve is mounted on a flange separated from the boiler by a gasket, maintaining a lower temperature and allowing safe use.

Why do the Mini Cordless and Pro Cordless have the same coupling system if the Mini does not support the Smart Valve?

The decision to use the same coupling system is related to technical and economic reasons.

Designing a completely different coupling for the Mini Cordless would have required a new dosing system, with increased development and production costs.

Keeping the Pro model coupling allows the use of existing components, achieving economies of scale and keeping the Mini Cordless price affordable, in line with the goal of offering a simple, reliable, and cost-effective device.

Batteries, adapters, and power supply

In this section you will find answers about batteries, adapters, and power supply for Oxalika vaporizers, including brand compatibility, recommended capacities (Ah), operating time, use of generators, and correct 12-Volt power supply.
Is it possible to use Hilti batteries with Oxalika Cordless vaporizers?

No, it is not possible to use Hilti batteries with Oxalika Cordless vaporizers, and no official adapters are available.

Hilti batteries are not 18 V batteries, but 21.6 V (22 V nominal) and use one additional cell compared to 18 V batteries. This difference makes them electrically incompatible with Oxalika vaporizers, which are designed exclusively to operate with nominal 18 V batteries.

The only available adapters are those listed in the “adapter” drop-down menu on the product page.

Which adapters are available for battery brands other than Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee, and DeWalt?

The only official adapters available are those listed in the “adapter” drop-down menu on the product page.

For other battery brands, we do not provide official adapters. However, some beekeepers use third-party adapters that convert batteries from other brands (such as Greenworks, Kress, AEG, or Ridgid) to a DeWalt-type interface, allowing the vaporizer to be used with a DeWalt adapter.

It is nevertheless recommended to use original batteries only, as the experience of many beekeepers with compatible batteries or non-official adapters has often been unsatisfactory.

Is it necessary to use original batteries with Oxalika Cordless vaporizers?

Yes, it is strongly recommended to use original batteries only.

Oxalika Cordless vaporizers have a high current draw and require reliable batteries to operate correctly.

Numerous issues, up to complete malfunction, have been reported with low-quality compatible batteries.

For proper performance, it is recommended to use original 18 V batteries with a minimum capacity of:

  • 4 Ah for Pro Cordless models
  • 2 Ah for Mini Cordless models
Is it possible to use batteries labeled as 20 V with Oxalika Cordless vaporizers?

Yes, batteries labeled as 20 V can be used without issues.

These batteries are actually nominal 18 V batteries, whose voltage normally ranges from about 16 V (discharged) to 20 V (fully charged).

Some manufacturers indicate 20 V as a peak value for marketing reasons, but the internal structure is identical to that of 18 V batteries, consisting of 5 cells of 3.6 V each.

Also in this case, to avoid malfunctions, it is essential to use original, high-quality batteries.

What is the minimum recommended battery capacity and how many hives can be treated with a Cordless vaporizer?

The minimum recommended capacity is 4 Ah for Pro Cordless models and 2 Ah for Mini Cordless models.

With a 4 Ah battery, it is possible to treat approximately 20–25 hives using doses of 2 grams of oxalic acid, while with an 8 Ah battery about 45–50 hives can be treated with the same dose. 9–12 Ah batteries provide even greater autonomy.

The number of treatable hives also depends on the dose used: with 4-gram doses, autonomy is reduced by half compared to 2-gram treatments.

Actual autonomy may also vary depending on external temperature, distance between hives, and battery quality.

Why does the battery of the vaporizer seem to last less than expected?

It may happen that the actual autonomy of a Cordless vaporizer is lower than expected, even when using an apparently new battery. This does not necessarily indicate a malfunction of the device.

To understand the reasons, it is useful to clarify how battery autonomy is calculated and which factors can influence it.

Battery energy and vaporizer power consumption

An 18 V – 5 Ah battery has a nominal energy of:

18 V × 5 Ah = 90 Wh

Oxalika Cordless vaporizers have a high power demand. In the case of Pro Cordless models, the power consumption is approximately 240 W.

The theoretical continuous operating time is therefore:

90 Wh ÷ 240 W = 0.375 hours,
which corresponds to about 22 minutes and 30 seconds of effective heating time.

This autonomy is consistent with the declared indicative values:

  • about 40 treatments with 2 g doses starting from cold;
  • up to about 50 treatments if the vaporizer is already hot;

under standard ambient temperature conditions and with a battery in perfect condition.

Reference conditions for the declared number of treatments

The indicative value of 40–50 treatments refers to:

  • 2 g doses of oxalic acid;
  • continuous use, with a single initial heating phase of the vaporizer;
  • standard ambient conditions.

In real use, battery autonomy may be significantly reduced if:

  • there is a long waiting time between one treatment and the next;
  • the outside temperature is low;
  • there is wind, which increases heat dispersion.

All these conditions increase overall energy consumption and reduce the number of treatments that can be carried out with a single charge.

Why fewer treatments may be obtained in practice

In recent years, we have found that many batteries, even if they appear new or show high specifications, do not reach their declared actual capacity. This results in lower autonomy than the theoretical values.

Furthermore, not all 18 V – 5 Ah batteries are designed for the same type of use. Batteries with the same nominal energy value (Wh) can behave very differently in real operating conditions.

In particular:

  • professional-grade batteries are designed to maintain high performance even:
    • at low ambient temperatures;
    • under high and continuous loads;
    • after many charge and discharge cycles;
    • after years of use.
  • hobby-grade or low-cost batteries generally guarantee their nominal performance:
    • under standard ambient conditions (around 20 °C);
    • with a lower number of cycles;
    • with faster performance degradation over time.

For this reason, two batteries with the same nominal energy value (for example 90 Wh) may offer very different autonomy in real use.

How to objectively check the actual battery capacity

Anyone who wishes to verify the real capacity of their 18 V – 5 Ah battery can perform a simple and objective test:

  • fully charge the battery;
  • measure the time required for the vaporizer to reach the operating temperature;
  • allow the device to cool down completely;
  • repeat the cycle until the battery is fully discharged;
  • add up all the heating times.

The total time should be close to about 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
If the value is significantly lower, it means that the battery does not deliver the 90 Wh theoretical energy stated in its specifications.

Technical support

Our technical support team is always available to assist customers:

  • in checking battery performance;
  • in the correct use of the vaporizer;
  • in optimizing operating conditions.

This helps ensure the best possible performance from Oxalika Cordless vaporizers.

Is there a difference between a Cordless vaporizer for DeWalt, Makita, or other battery brands?

No, the Cordless vaporizer is always the same.

The only difference concerns the adapter, which varies depending on the battery brand used (DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch Professional, etc.).

The vaporizer body does not change: it is sufficient to use the adapter compatible with the desired battery brand.

Is it possible to change the adapter on an Oxalika Cordless vaporizer?

Yes, the adapter can be purchased separately and easily replaced, allowing batteries of different brands to be used on the same Cordless vaporizer.

The choice of adapter is therefore not definitive.

The connection system is designed to prevent incorrect installation, ensuring safety and ease of use even during replacement.

Are Mini Cordless adapters compatible with the Pro Cordless?

Yes, Mini Cordless adapters marked with the “+” and “−” symbols on the contacts are also compatible with the Pro Cordless and can be used safely.

These adapters can be mounted on both models thanks to a connection system that prevents reversal of the electrical contacts.

Are Pro Cordless adapters compatible with the Mini Cordless?

Only adapters marked with the “+” and “−” symbols are compatible and safe on both models, Pro Cordless and Mini Cordless.

This adapter version was introduced specifically to ensure interoperability and safety between the two devices.

Older adapters, without the “+” and “−” symbols, must not be used on the Mini Cordless, as they are not designed for this model and may cause device damage or safety issues.

Is it possible to use a power generator with an Oxalika vaporizer?

Yes, but only with corded models.

The generator must provide the correct voltage and adequate power for the consumption of the model used, as well as a stable and continuous power supply.

Cordless models do not require generators, as they operate exclusively on batteries.

Which battery is recommended for Oxalika Premium models and how many hives can be treated?

For Oxalika Premium models, a car battery of at least 45 Ah is recommended.

With a battery of this capacity, it is possible to achieve an operating time of at least 2 hours, performing approximately:

  • 80–100 treatments with 2-gram doses of oxalic acid
  • 160–200 treatments with 1-gram doses

Actual autonomy may vary depending on battery quality and efficiency.

To keep the battery efficient over time, it is important to:

  • keep it always charged, even when not in use;
  • avoid letting the voltage drop below 12.4 V during storage;
  • never allow a full discharge, avoiding drops below 11.5 V.
Which battery is recommended for the Oxalika Basic model and how many hives can be treated?

For the Oxalika Basic model, a car battery of approximately 45 Ah is recommended.

With a battery of this capacity, it is possible to achieve an operating time of at least 2 hours, performing approximately:

  • 30–40 treatments with 2-gram doses of oxalic acid
  • 35–45 treatments with 1-gram doses

Actual autonomy may vary depending on battery quality and efficiency.

To keep the battery efficient over time, it is important to:

  • ensure it is always charged, even when not in use;
  • avoid letting the voltage drop below 12.4 V during storage;
  • prevent full discharge, avoiding drops below 11.5 V.
What type of electrical power supply can be used with Oxalika 12-Volt models?

Oxalika 12-Volt models can be powered:

  • by a car battery;
  • by a compatible 12-Volt direct current (DC) power supply.

In the event of reversed polarity (positive and negative swapped), the vaporizer is not damaged and will operate correctly: the system is protected against polarity inversion.

Is it possible to use batteries or power supplies with a voltage different from 12 Volt on Oxalika 12-Volt models?

No.

Oxalika 12-Volt vaporizers must be powered exclusively at 12 Volts DC.

Using different voltages may compromise correct operation and is not permitted.

Is it possible to use an alternating current (AC) power supply to power battery-operated Oxalika vaporizers?

No.

Battery-operated Oxalika vaporizers operate exclusively on direct current (DC).

An alternating current (AC) power supply is not compatible and must not be used.

Is it possible to use batteries with different capacities (Ah)? What changes when using a battery with more or fewer Ah?

Yes, it is possible to use batteries with different capacities (Ah), but caution is required.

Using a battery with too low capacity may cause overheating, with the risk of damage or, in the worst cases, explosion. During use, it is therefore important to ensure that the battery does not overheat excessively.

There is no upper limit to capacity: a battery with higher Ah simply allows more treatments between recharges, without contraindications.

What is the minimum recommended battery capacity for Oxalika Pro 12-Volt models?

For Oxalika Pro 12-Volt models, a battery with a minimum capacity of 70 Ah is recommended.

What is the minimum recommended battery capacity for Oxalika Premium and Basic models?

For Oxalika Premium and Basic models, a battery with a minimum capacity of 45 Ah is recommended.

Maintenance, cleaning, and wear

In this section you will find answers about routine maintenance, boiler cleaning, and components subject to wear in Oxalika vaporizers, including correct cleaning procedures and warranty limits.
Which cleaning tools are included with Oxalika vaporizers, and why is the brush included only with some models?

The cleaning brush is included only with Oxalika models designed for use with products containing excipients, such as Api-Bioxal versions with a high percentage of excipients, which can be used exclusively with models labeled Easy.

In these cases, the brush is required to remove residues left by excipients after sublimation.

In models designed for use with pure oxalic acid (such as Sprint, Smart, and Power), the brush is not included because it is not necessary: pure oxalic acid sublimates completely and does not leave residues that require mechanical cleaning.

This difference is not a shortcoming, but a design choice related to the type of product used and the correct operation of the vaporizer.

How can I clean the vaporizer after use?

If you use pure oxalic acid (≥ 99.6%), cleaning is simple and does not require brushes.

Pure oxalic acid evaporates almost completely, leaving only a minimal amount of residue (approximately 4 g per kg of product).

To remove it, it is sufficient to pour small amounts of water, preferably distilled, into the boiler while it is still hot.

The thermal shock causes the water to boil immediately, detaching the thin layer of impurities from the internal walls.

The operation can be repeated several times until a clean boiler is obtained.

I damaged the thermostat cable of my Premium vaporizer during cleaning: what can I do?

If the thermostat cable is damaged, for example during brushing of the boiler, the vaporizer may not function correctly.

The possibility of repair depends on the type of bowl installed:

9.8 × 55 mm bowl (hexagonal): the entire assembly must be replaced.

12 × 38 mm bowl (elongated): it is possible to replace only the thermostat.

To receive a quotation and learn about repair times, it is necessary to complete the support request page, attaching photos of the damaged part and a brief description of the issue.

Is damage to the thermostat cable covered by the warranty?

No.

The thermostat cable is protected by a glass–silicone sheath (GVS), resistant to both high temperatures and oxalic acid.

If the cable is damaged, the cause is not the acid, but external mechanical factors such as bending, impacts, crushing, or abrasion.

This type of damage is not covered by the warranty, even if the product is still under warranty.

Is it necessary to brush the vaporizer boiler after use?

It depends on the type of oxalic acid used.

If you use pure oxalic acid, brushing the boiler is not necessary.

It is sufficient to pour a small amount of water into the boiler while it is still hot: boiling helps remove residues without mechanical intervention.

If you use products containing additives, such as the Api-Bioxal version containing 14% excipients, it is mandatory to brush the boiler between each sublimation.

Otherwise, residues may build up and compromise the efficiency of the vaporizer.

Why can the vaporizer nozzle become clogged?

Clogging of the nozzle occurs when oxalic acid, instead of remaining in the vapor phase, recrystallizes or solidifies inside the tube.

This phenomenon occurs when the temperature of the nozzle, especially at its tip (the part farthest from the boiler and therefore the coolest), drops below approximately 150–160 °C, or when impurities are present that do not sublimate correctly.

The main causes of nozzle clogging are the following:

  • Incorrectly installed tube: the tube must be inserted fully into the boiler. With S-shaped or L-shaped tubes, the longest straight section must be completely inserted. Partial insertion reduces heat transfer.
  • Absence of copper paste between the boiler and the tube: copper paste is required to improve thermal conductivity and keep the tube hotter. Without copper paste, the nozzle tends to cool down.
  • Incorrect temperature setting (models with display):
    • 230 °C for doses of 2 g of oxalic acid;
    • 240 °C for doses of 3–4 g.

    Lower settings may promote recrystallization inside the tube.

  • Incorrect procedure between successive sublimations: between one treatment and the next, it is always necessary to wait until the temperature has returned to the set point (230 or 240 °C). Proceeding too early means working with a nozzle that is not sufficiently hot.
  • Hive hole too tight: a hole that tightly surrounds the nozzle draws heat away from it. If the wood is damp, the cooling effect is even more pronounced.
  • Contact of the nozzle with damp parts: contact with cold or damp surfaces can rapidly lower the temperature of the tube.
  • Presence of impurities in the oxalic acid: if the oxalic acid contains impurities with a melting or sublimation temperature higher than 150–160 °C, the tube may become clogged even without dropping below this temperature range.
  • Exposure to cold wind: wind can rapidly cool the nozzle. It is recommended to insert the nozzle into the hive sheltered from the wind and to wait 10–15 seconds before starting sublimation, in order to stabilize the temperature.

By following these guidelines, the risk of nozzle clogging can be significantly reduced, ensuring correct and efficient sublimation.

Safety, PPE, and operator protection

In this section you will find answers about safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) for treatments with sublimated oxalic acid, including masks, filters, protective goggles, and filter replacement.
Can I use 3M safety goggles with the BLS 4000 half mask?

Yes, 3M safety goggles can be used with the BLS 4000 half mask.

However, since these are products from different brands, perfect compatibility in terms of comfort and face seal cannot be guaranteed.

For maximum safety, it is always recommended to check the fit before use, ensuring that the mask seals properly on the face and that the goggles do not interfere with the sealing edges.

Is it possible to return a protective mask if it has only been tried on?

No.

For hygiene and safety reasons, we do not accept returns of protective masks that have been tried on, even if they have not been used during a treatment.

This rule is necessary to ensure maximum protection for all customers.

Are the filters of BLS 4000 Next and BLS 5600 masks compatible with other brands?

No.

BLS 4000 Next and BLS 5600 masks use a proprietary bayonet connection.

As a result, BLS filters are not compatible with masks from other manufacturers, and it is not possible to use filters from other brands on these models.

To ensure safety, performance, and compliance with certifications, it is always necessary to use original BLS filters.

What characteristics should a protective mask have for treatments with sublimated oxalic acid?

The choice of mask depends on the type of treatment and the operator’s level of exposure.

◆ FFP3 masks

FFP3 masks are inexpensive (approximately €3–5) and filter only oxalic acid dust.
They protect the beekeeper while loading oxalic acid powder into the cold bowl, but they do not filter vapors. After inserting the bowl into the hive, it is necessary to move away to avoid inhaling vapors.

They must always be used together with protective goggles.

They may be suitable for occasional use with the Oxalika Basic vaporizer.

◆ Masks with ABE1P3 or ABE2P3 filters

These masks filter both oxalic acid dust and vapors and are recommended when it is not possible to move away during treatment, for example with Oxalika Premium without cooling between hives or with Oxalika PRO models.

They can be of two types:

a) Half masks (e.g. BLS 4000)

They protect only the respiratory tract, therefore protective goggles are required.

They are suitable for temporary use, as prolonged use may cause goggles to fog up.

b) Full-face masks (e.g. BLS 5600)

They protect both the respiratory tract and the eyes.

They are equipped with an internal ventilation system that prevents fogging.

They are more expensive, but recommended for intensive and professional use.

When should the filters of protective masks be replaced?

It is necessary to always refer to the filter manufacturer’s technical data sheet for up-to-date and specific information.

In general, filters for oxalic acid do not have a fixed service life, as their effectiveness depends on the amount of substance filtered and the level of environmental contamination.

Filters must be replaced immediately as soon as even the slightest odor of oxalic acid is detected during use.

Yes.

Most spare parts are available directly on our website.

For components not listed in the shop or for specific requests, you can contact us by email at info@oxalika.com, specifying the vaporizer model and the required spare part.

The vaporizer produces little vapor or leaves residues: what does this mean?

Low vapor output, the presence of solid residues (“small stones”) inside the hive, or a tube that becomes dirty quickly are not normal and may indicate:

• insufficient power supply;
• discharged or faulty battery;
• thermostat problems;
• buildup inside the boiler or bowl.

For 12 V models, it is recommended to test the vaporizer by connecting it directly to the car battery, without extension cables, with the engine running.

If the issue persists, please complete the support request page and attach photos and videos.

How can I request technical support for an Oxalika vaporizer?

To request technical support, you must complete the “Support” page on the Oxalika website, providing:

In many cases, we can also send spare parts with instructions for self-installation.

Please contact us specifying the model and the issue encountered.

If I replace the electronic board of my Oxalika Pro 12 V without display, will it work again?

In most cases, replacing the electronic board allows the vaporizer to function correctly again.

However, without knowing the cause of the failure, the outcome cannot be guaranteed: the board may have been damaged due to issues with the heating element or other internal components.

For this reason, it is always advisable to check the overall condition of the vaporizer before replacement.

What should I pay attention to when replacing the board in Oxalika Pro 12 V models?

Oxalika Pro 12 V models have a high current draw. It is therefore essential to:

• firmly crimp the female faston connectors before connection, using pliers;
• avoid loose or unstable connections, which may cause overheating;
• use cables and connectors in good condition, free from oxidation or damage.

Following these precautions reduces the risk of further failures and extends the lifespan of the replaced board.

My Oxalika Premium has stopped working: what should I do?

If your Oxalika Premium no longer turns on or heats up, you must open a technical support request via the online form available at:

https://www.oxalika.com/assistenza/

In the form, you will need to indicate:

• the product model and serial number;
• purchase date and retailer, if applicable;
• a detailed description of the issue;
• photos and/or a short video showing the malfunction.

After submission, our technical department will analyze the request and inform you of the next steps.

Accessories, spare parts, and included equipment

In this section you will find answers about accessories, spare parts, and included equipment for Oxalika vaporizers, including wear parts, protective components, and spare part availability.
What are the red silicone tubes supplied with some vaporizers used for?

The red silicone tubes are fitted onto the vaporizer diffuser tube and are used to protect hives from the heat of the metal tube.

They are particularly useful when working with plastic or polystyrene hives, as the silicone provides thermal insulation and prevents accidental contact from damaging the hive walls during treatment.

Where can I purchase a replacement flange for the Smart Valve?

The Smart Valve flange is a wear component and can be purchased as a spare part.

It is available directly on our website, in the section dedicated to spare parts for Oxalika vaporizers.

Before purchasing, make sure to select the correct flange according to the vaporizer model you own.

Why are Oxalika vaporizers not supplied with a plastic carrying case?

We have chosen not to include a plastic carrying case for reasons related to cost, logistics, and environmental impact.

Rigid cases occupy the same volume whether empty or full, increasing storage and shipping costs. Our cardboard boxes, on the other hand, are custom-designed, compact, and easily palletized, allowing costs to be reduced and the final product price to be kept lower.

In addition, plastic cases of various sizes are readily available in hardware stores, and many beekeepers use containers they already own, thus avoiding unnecessary consumption of new plastic.

Is it possible to purchase spare parts for Oxalika vaporizers?

Yes, spare parts can be purchased for all Oxalika vaporizers.

Most components are available directly on our website, in the categories dedicated to individual models.

If you cannot find the spare part you need online, you can contact us by sending a few photos:

  • of the vaporizer;
  • of the part to be replaced;
  • of the location where it is installed on the device.

This allows us to correctly identify the component and confirm compatibility, availability, and price.

Invoicing and currency

In this section you will find answers about invoicing and currency for Oxalika orders, including the invoice currency, how the currency converter works, and exchange rate updates.
In which currency is the invoice issued?

All Oxalika invoices are issued exclusively in euros (EUR), regardless of the destination country of the order or the currency displayed on the website.

What is the purpose of the currency conversion tool on the website?

The currency conversion tool is intended as an informational aid for international customers.

It allows prices to be displayed approximately in the customer’s local currency, making it easier to compare them with domestic market prices.

The conversion has no contractual value.

• the final amount at checkout;
• the charge;
• and the invoicing

are always carried out exclusively in euros. Amounts displayed in other currencies are to be considered purely indicative.

How up to date are the exchange rates used by the currency tool?

The exchange rates used by the currency tool are normally updated daily and are based on values published by the European Central Bank (ECB).

In this case as well, these values are indicative only: invoicing is always carried out exclusively in euros, regardless of the currency displayed.
